A New Mission; It's About Time

I've played with this idea for a while.

Once upon a long time ago I had a blog, and I wrote down I guess what a typical teenager writes down. A few years passed and it became boring, pointless, embarrassing. It’s gone now – long deleted. I thought about that blog when I was thinking about creating this one. I’m at a time in my life where I feel like I need an outlet once more. But this time, it’s more important. It’s real. I can do something with this. Will the same thing happen? Will this become boring, redundant…will I be embarrassed about what I write here in several years time? I’m not sure, but I felt what I had to say was worth the risk of embarrassment.

I graduated college a few years ago. Just about the time the economic downturn started to bloom into the most frustrating thing I’ve ever seen. Having majored in the science field, it’s common knowledge that most of the jobs are located either within the government or within school systems – both of which have been hard hit in financial cuts and job losses. As a result I have yet to find that “real job” everyone’s been talking about.

I’ve been fortunate enough to pretty consistently have a “job,” really a chain of temporary positions conveniently lined up each season. Some have been within my field, some have not. Some have paid, some have boosted my CV. I am grateful for what I have found, but I can’t help wanting to actually apply that $120,000 college education I paid for into something tangible, something real. Something I love…Isn’t that the point?

I’ve been reading a lot in my spare time. Mostly about environmental issues, fisheries, endangered species. I read a lot of news articles. I can’t help but become infuriated at some of the poor decisions both people and politicians have made recently regarding conservation measurements. I try to share all the information I find with everyone I know. I want people to know about these things. I want people to be aware, to spread awareness, to do something. I’m not sure if I’ve been successful. It’s easy to ignore what you don’t want to hear about on social networking websites and in emails. Some people have responded to some things. Some people have spread the word about some things. Some people seem to genuinely care about some things.

I created this blog to put all the things I find concerning environmental news and awareness in one place. To have my efforts more focused and concentrated. The people who read this blog will be the people who care about the issues. They will be here for a reason, they will be here to learn and to spread awareness – and that excites me. That’s what I truly, truly want.

So, onward with my mission in this new direction. Will I be successful? It’s up to you.
